WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER THE HEATING PHASE?

Once the heating phase is over (probably around 2024) and the entire experiment has been dismantled, scientists will spend time analysing all the data and drafting their final conclusions.

The results of the PRACLAY experiment will refine existing knowledge about the behaviour of the Boom Clay when subjected to heat. The main objective is to confirm that heating does not impair the clay’s ability to physically contain the radioactive waste. It is therefore a crucial step in the process of developing and implementing a real repository.
